We are two students that are currently performing a survey on the motivational factors for participating in open source software development. If you are involved in this field, we'd like to ask you to participate at:

http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=yg100pc6mw...

The survey is anonymous and we've tried to keep the number of questions as low as possible so that it won't take too long. We'd really appreciate it if you took the time to fill out the form and if possible, pass the survey on to others who you know are involved with open source.

Yours sincerely,

Magnus & Daniel

When doing research, you should definitely look at the results of UNU - MERIT (United Nations University - Maastricht Economic Research Institute on Innovation and social Research) if you have not already looked over there.

They already did some studies close to this topic, of which the results are available online (licensed under creative commons as far as I know).

A good place to learn about UNU - MERIT and its research is http://www.merit.unu.edu/publications/pb/unu_pb_2006_01.pdf

After that, proceed to flossworld. org and flosspols. org (remark: Remove the spaces before .org). Floss means Free / Libre Open Source Software. Here are links to the results of the studies:

Please keep us informed about your results, we'd like publish about it when you are done (editors ;at; lxer _dot_ org).

http://flosspols.org/deliverables.php Flosspols deliverables http://flossworld.org/presentations.php Flossworld presentations

For example, look at page 20 of http://www.flossproject.org/papers/20060307/rishabGHOSH-mala...

a chart of why people develop Floss.
