If this is not a one-off on Dell's part, but the overall strategy and a convoluted way to allow users to weasel out of the Microsoft tax, then I say kudos to them. They get to use MS's EULA to their advantage without having to risk having MS charge them more per copy of XP. Unfortunately, Dells are junky PCs these days. I have several older Dells that are actually built nicely, but those days have ended. Our shop is a Dell dealer, and there's an inordinate number of problems encountered with new PCs, and with an increasing number of servers.

Should we try this with Lenovo?

One individual, one refund, one occasion. This does NOT constitute "for those adopting LInux" by any measure. Most likely, a local decision made by a Brit marketing rep using delegated authority.
