A nice plus for Linux, but seriously. Couldn't they figure out simply buying a machine without USB? Or filling the slots with epoxy? Or simply disconnecting the internal cables that connect the ports to the mobo?

Only the second is a realistic option in most cases. In my experience, most motherboards now come with USB connectors built onto them, with no connecting cable.
