Say what? at number 6....

Of course, lots of those sound like pretty common stuff...

Titles in Patents often sound like "common stuff" - you have to get into the actual claims to get a feel for their "uniqueness" or lack thereof.

Looking at items 1 through 5, I would think that it would be more appropriate that they be copyrighted or trademarked, but not patented (even if they talk about "design" of the things in question.)

Well, they started with the Justice Dept, the USPTO would be the next logical step, probably followed by the USPS.

I just glanced through this but this caught my attention. M$ has pattened downloading graphics drivers. It's a good thing that for the most part, those drivers are part of the kernel or X, and unless you want proprietary drivers, you don't actually have to download something.

@theboomboomcars -
It doesn't matter what the patent title is. Notice that several of these MS patents have the same title. What really matters are the *claims* in the patent. If you use an update mechanism for updating graphics drivers that differs from that presented in the claims of this patent, then you are *not* infringing on the patent.

By the time MS is done patenting their junk, the patent system will be nullified by their own same junk.

What about a patent for for patenting Obvious "innovations". The owner of that Patent could sue Microsoft for Patenting Obvious "innovations".
