I have seen this in action. There is more to fear from bad contracts with contractors than with the Big Boys. I watched a good company I was at go down due to a lawsuit from a sub-contractor of a contractor to the company claiming IP rights on the code we were using. The suit sucked the life out of the company, chased away investment and resulted in a $5 million judgement for the plaintiff. Mind you this wasn't a patent suit, per se, but it certainly illustrates the point. A BSA audit would have been like a day at the spa compared to that, even if every computer in the building was running pirated everything. |
