Wonder what the rate of marketshare growth in Linux Desktop over Windows Desktop (XP, Vista) will end up for 2008?

In terms of the Windows DESKTOP vs the Windows SERVER, what will REALLY happen as Microsoft's planned June 30th expiration date of XP Direct OEM and Retail License Availability gets closer and closer ??

(( BTW, for those who possibly remain unclear on this, MS only plans to discontinue _SALES_ of XP on June 30th; MS continues its full XP _SUPPORT_ and XP SP-updates at least through 2014. See Windows XP -related webpages such as http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx and http://www.zdnet.co.uk/talkback/0,1000001161,39290919-390010... for more info on Microsoft's actual Windows' timeline ))

Will Microsoft actually extend such XP license sales as more and more anti-Vista XP users sign InfoWorld's 'Save Windows XP' weblog petition -- found at http://weblog.infoworld.com/save-xp/ -- or should a visible number of XP users start migrating to RH/SLED/Ubuntu ??

Is Microsoft actually at all in the process of increasing its stake in Novell (or Xandros, other F/OSS vendors..) to somehow transition current XP users -- using an intermediary such as maybe a SuSE variant? -- either to Vista or to eventually MS's next Windows version ??
