I tried it again today, to install it into VirtualBox, it got about 8 or 10 dots on the screen, and locked up. Exactly what it did last time I tried. Next version, I'll try again. |

How about a bare metal install? It is not uncommon for an OS that works just fine on actual hardware, to have issues when virtualized. |

As I say in my blog, I've struck out on two platforms now. One of those same two PCs, a Dell, has run MilaX, an independent project based on OpenSolaris, with not problems at all. Even though Sun is a "real" company, the OpenSolaris desktop project is just too new to have a lot of issues worked out. Once you do get it running, I imagine there's not much of a repository, and I don't even think there's a full set of tools to compile software, either. I'd love for it to work and to be great, but thus far it hasn't proven to be either in my experience. |

Regarding Sun Repos view:- [HYPERLINK@blogs.sun.com] Otherwise, install regular Nevada Build (say 87) and you won't need much internet repos. |

What about full virtualized OpenSolaris Guest .... OS2008/05 HVM DomU runs fine at Xen 3.2.1 CentOS Dom0 ( both 64-bit). I am also pretty sure that it won't be a problem at Xen 3.1 F8 (RHEL 5.1) Dom0. VMWare Servers cause too much performance degradation compare with HVM DomUs at Xen 3.2.1 Linux Dom0s. I don't have any VMWare stuff up and running for testing full virtualized OpenSolaris Guest. View for details:- [HYPERLINK@lxer.com] |

> Attention Bob_Robertson, Ok, so his worked. Mine didn't. I'll try again on the next software build, maybe whatever it is that is locking up the install for me will shake loose. |

Bob, are you using the commerical install of VirtualBox or the OSE verison? Odds are he was using the commercial version. |

Commercial, but free as in beer for personal use. The OSE doesn't support USB, which is a nasty little proprietaryism that almost makes it worth not using them at all. |

> Commercial... OK. I'm out of ideas then. :( The OSE edition doesn't seem to like accessing CD or floppies in Slackware for some reason. I had to use an iso image to get a test install of Ubuntu working. |

can you give the output of the commands: $ /usr/bin/VBoxManage list dvds and $ /usr/bin/VBoxManage list hostdvds I wonder if VBox can see your host CD drive. $ /usr/bin/VBoxManage --help will give you more command line options. |

> ...can you give the output of the commands:... No. I uninstalled it. I won't have time to play with it again until at least this weekend. James Dixon |
