I was confronted with a totally naive user who was intending doing lots of banking, finance and shopping over broadband, and for whom I was totally responsible IT-wise. The question was, whether I could keep the XP installation secure, and whether I could be certain I had done it. I decided that if I worked at it half a day or one day a week, I could probably keep it secure. This was based on knowing the IT department at a large networking company quite well, and knowing what they were going through, and knowing at least in outline how to use the tools, and what it would take to stay up to date on Windows security issues. But the issue was, probably. So I took them to Linux. |
