The main Cuil site is not responding to connect requests from my system, and I'm seeing rumors that they have "thrown in the towel."

Indeed, I still visited the website last week, but now it seems down.

Probably never made it anyway due to lack of momentum. Search results weren't that good either, that's why I switched back to Google. Now if only someone could start a search engine which does include non-alphanumerical characters!

I tried it many times, but the results they sent back were not much better than you'd get with Yahoo! circa 1998. It just wasn't very good. ixquick is usually good enough, though there are times I have to switch back to Google. Luckily it's easy to go back and forth in Firefox.

I have been using DuckDuckGo a bit, and it seems pretty decent thus far. It's less good at doing "fuzzy" searches, but if you can spell, it's a good choice. ;)

DuckDuckGo, Mooter and the venerable AltaVista seem to be the best alternatives to Google right now.
