I agree with you that Android has very little in common with general Linux distributions. The only thing that connects them is the kernel. Android also doesn't have an open development, unlike many FOSS software out there. This may not be a bad thing, but it makes it more closed. Another thing is that most android devices are shipped with lots of proprietary code. Android is attractive to me because its Linux, and I'm more free with it, but I can understand why certain people (like Stallman) don't want to use it. Android is more open than other Mobile operating systems out there, but no so much more. |
