1. "Laurels wear out quickly; resting upon them just crushes them to the ground." So true. It sounds like a great tag line.

2. Working outside jobs to keep the bills paid, while doing the great things in one's life, puts Mr. Starks in company with Patch Adams.

I had the privilege of meeting Ken once while visiting in Austin. It was an honor to be able to buy dinner for someone who has given so much to others. I just wish there was more I could do.

I read this interview one day after my family's second cancer death in the last 5 months.

Mortality sucks, but it gets all of us sooner or later.

We all die. Not all of us manage to live. Ken's got a lot of us beat on that score.

That said, I'm not ready to count Ken out just yet. he's a tough old buzzard who's beaten back the big 'C' before. Hope he does it again.

Regardless, those are some pretty fine footprints he's left in the sand.
