It's a conspiracy, I tell ya! Mark has decided if he can't compete with Windows8, he'll just ignore it. 8 >)

That sounds like a conspiracy I'd enjoy being part of. Where do I sign up?

The story is that Ubuntu made so many changes to the installer so late in the cycle in order to cram all of the alternate-installer features into the live installer, it was inevitable that mistakes would be made.

If Ubuntu would stop being enslaved to a hard, can't be budged no matter what release date they will always have bugs that should never be in a final release.

The really weird part is that neither Microsoft nor (AFAIK) Apple are so inflexably rigid about release dates.

What is the point of it?

Ubuntu is really into counting down to release day.

OpenBSD has set release dates, they never miss, and stuff is never poorly baked. It's the development philosophy, project structure and project goals that make for quality.
