Development that is going to put the choke around IE's neck if MS doesn't join in.

Can we say good bye Skype?

If MS joins in, you can be sure that it will try to change - pervert is a better word - the standard as it did with XML. But in this case, it does not have the userbase or marketshare to do it.

Pretty sure they are going to try, but it doesn't matter because Google & Mozilla have a working version already and MS doesn't.

If MS wants to play hardball to protect its investment in Skype, it will end up isolating itself since most users would prefer not to have to install another plugin/application.

If MS comes up with good suggestions/changes, I am sure Google & Mozilla would oblige. That is why both have their own prefixes (mozRTCPeerConnection & webkitRTCPeerConnection) for the API. They expected changes and willing to make them if appropriate.

What!? Google isn't mining enough data on yer life? Can we say facial recognition database? Why yes, how may I help you, Mr NSA?

I'm not really a conspiracy alarmist, but it's flat scary how readily ppl throw themselves into helping the govt compile information on themselves. I'm beginning to believe "the web" and "the net" are frighteningly apropos.

As for me, no thanks, I'll pass.

Well it is a concern but fortunately there is another choice. I don't believe Mozilla would take the same approach as Google if and when asked.

One has to evaluate the risks and make a conscious decision whether the benefits outweigh the risks. It is always a trade off.
