Does anyone else recall the TV exec in the US that said something to the effect that people who did not watch television commercials were stealing from the broadcasters?

Same mindset as the folks on the IAB it seems.

Am I supposed to watch the promo for Blu-Ray that pops up when I watch a rented DVD? Or am I allowed to skip over that once I've seen it 10... 50... 100 times? I wouldn't want to be stealing food from the mouths of the disc player manufacturers' children, after all.

"Don't go around thinking the universe owes you anything. It was here first." -- Mark Twain (probably paraphrased, but oh well)

Advice to the "advertisers:" On TV, we can mute it, or even change the channel, if we are annoyed by your so-called "product," that is, the commercials themselves. And we often do, just to shut you up. We are under no obligation to let you invade our lives.
