After 15 years of Open source (12 in Linux) I finally started (about 6 months back) keeping all my code and web development at work in CVS. I don't know why I never used it before because it really is easy to set up and easier to use. I'm not much into graphical utilities but there is a utility out there called "lincvs" that is a really nice graphical front end.

I have never used cvs for my config files (/etc/*) but it makes perfect sense to keep track of them in CVS. Especially if you are always changing things like your Apache configs. I will start doing this on machines that do not get regular backups in other ways (it might not be a bad idea to do it even if the machines ARE backed up). I'll try the scripts out in this article and see how they go. Yes, I know there are other tools but CVS does work well for this sort of stuff too.
