Newsforge Quality

Hmm...Are we seeing more quality from Newsforge here? From the article:

Seems to make the whole article rather pointless. Have I missed the point? I would think that if you are a member of a standards committee you would be agreeing to implement that standard. Where, therefore, does this open letter come into things? I think I know what the purpose is, but I didn't think Newsforge quality had sunk as low as to become pure propogandists. It was this kind of writing dominating that stopped me reading Newsforge anyway (after their appalling dump of a great format, and M$ ads.).
