Kiddix - The Linux For Kids Launches a "Pay What You Want" Promotion
Pittsburgh, PA - Kiddix Computing, the family-friendly desktop Linux company, has launched a one week "pay what you want" promotion to help support their initiative of providing children with a safe and open computing environment. Through June 15th, interested individuals can purchase a downloadable copy of the Kiddix operating system or choose to donate the software license for someone else to enjoy. Individuals who support the promotion with a purchase of $20 or more will be given a coupon code to download the future Kiddix 2.0 release at a deep discount. In addition, for every $10,000 raised, the company will donate two Intel-powered Convertible Classmate PC's bundled with Kiddix to one of several selected children's organizations. Children's organizations can sign up to receive donations on the promotion website. As part of the promotion, the company will be fully open sourcing their Kiddix operating system, which has previously contained proprietary software. Kiddix itself is a Linux-based operating system that focuses on providing children with a safe and friendly computing environment, while putting parents in control over the experience with simple and comprehensive parental controls. The software includes applications, such as a word processor, web browser, calendar, calculator, email, etc., a suite of games, and dozens of educational activities that help reinforce children's knowledge of math, reading, and science in a fun way. Children are able to do anything in Kiddix that they would do in a traditional operating system, with the difference that parents are in control over that experience. "I firmly believe that our goal of providing children with a safe haven for computing, and putting parents in control of that experience, is of the utmost importance. This is an area that has received too little attention from major software vendors, who continue to market one-size-fits-all solutions," said Michael Gualtieri, Founder & CEO of Kiddix Computing. "We are looking forward to this promotion embracing the overall community, and letting them guide us through our future software enhancements."
