The 6th annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit: is April 3-5, 2012 in San Francisco. If you are not going there, you can watch the first day's panels and keynotes on the web (see below).

Here's an opportunity to hang with kernel maintainers and driver gurus like James Bottomly and Greg Kroah-Hartman, both of whom will be on the panel on the state of the Linux Kernel.
Probably the most anticipated keynotes will be by Frank Frankovsky, Facebook's Director of Hardware Design, who will talk about the company's Open Compute project for standardizing an energy-efficient computing infrastructure. Their experiment resulted in a 38 percent improvement in energy use and a 24 percent saving in cost.
This is a highly recommended event - if you can wangle an exclusive invite. It is a gathering place for kernel heads and Open Source rock stars and the direction of Linux for the next year is discussed. Expect the sessions to be detailed and you might even see some real collaboration.
Two years ago, the Summit was the site of the Nokia and Intel partnership announcement which created the Meego mobile Linux project at the Linux Foundation. That was a near miss, as Nokia swerved out of the partnership last year and into the arms of Microsoft. Nokia did release the N9 smartphone, which is powered by Meego, and there are reports from netbook.com that Nokia will be releasing 2 more Meego phones this year in the developing world. (Meego was created by merging Moblin and Maemo, a Nokia project, and is designed for smartphones, netbooks, tablets and desktop computers.)
The real in-depth sessions occur on days 2 snd 3 of the Collaboration Summit. There are up to 9 simultaneous tracks and most run all day. On the second day these include:

The Tizen project is a new development this year sponsored by the Linux Foundation with the beta for the Tizen SDK just being released at the end of February.
Tizen is an open source, standards-based software platform for different mobile and embedded linux devices, including smartphones, tablets, netbooks, in-vehicle infotainment devices, smart TVs, etc. Tizen will offer an operating system, applications, and a user experience that consumers can take from device to device. The Tizen SDK allows developers to use HTML5 and related web technologies to write applications that run across multiple devices
