The source code release of the 2D drawing package Toonz as OpenToonz is ready for download from github at: https://github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz

The download weights 192Mb aprox. and consist of C++ code with CMake lists to compile. The package is using Qt5 for it's graphics controls. Instructions for compiling are for Windows and OSX primary, but with some time anybody can compile the software in linux.

I have just cloned the sources and was not able to compile them for lacking some libraries, but it's a matter of time.

The LICENSE for source code is a new BSD type license, that means the software sources are released for any purpose. However the web site for download binary packages shows a japanese written license:

https://opentoonz.github.io/e/download/opentoonz.html

with no translation available, but using google translate you can read it (in case you're interested), is the "classical" legal stuff (you know that).

For some of us interested in collaboration there are many opportunity areas for development, even if you don't code, you can help by translating. Some translations started now (french and italian) but there are plenty of work for those who think that open source needs more projects (especially for linux i think).
