8th Jan, 2005 (Gurgaon, India): Daffodil Software, a leading database technology company, today cracked the Compiere challenge by formally announcing the launch of its version of Daffodil DB compatible with Compiere.

Daffodil DB is a J2EE-certified, JDBC 3.0 and SQL 99 compliant Java database. It has been designed to handle complex computing environments that demand a robust, scalable and high-performance RDBMS that can operate across platforms.

Compiere is the leading Open Source ERP software application with fully integrated CRM software solutions. Compiere provides a comprehensive solution for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SME) in distribution and service on a global basis and covers all areas from customer management and supply chain to accounting.

This Compiere mission was necessitated following the concerns expressed by Compiere community for an alternate database to Oracle. Compiere is a very demanding product in terms of database requirements which is obvious by the fact that till date no other database, Java or native, apart from Oracle is compatible with Compiere.

For working with Compiere through Daffodil DB, users need not make any change in the Compiere code. Modified Compiere files and Daffodil DB (Compiere compatible) database can be downloaded from http://www.daffodildb.com/daffodil-compiere.html

The alpha version of Daffodil DB with Compiere support was released a month ago and since then the Compiere community is actively testing Daffodil DB with Compiere. The Compiere mission has tasted initial success with no major issues reported in the Compiere support forum. Apart from considerable performance enhancements, beta release also supports the much needed migration utility to port existing Oracle applications to Daffodil DB. ComPiere Inc., the developers of Compiere, in recognition of our efforts has listed Daffodil in their Database Independence page.

“Daffodil DB’s support for Compiere answers a strongly felt need among current and prospective Compiere users. With this Compiere project, we are extending our support to Compiere community in finding out a viable alternative to Oracle.” commented Mr. Yogesh Agarwal (CEO, Daffodil Software). “Launch of Compiere compatible Daffodil DB is the continuation of our Open Source initiatives like Daffodil Replicator”, he added.

Thanking the Compiere community for their overwhelming support throughout the project period, Mr. Parveen Agarwal, Technical Manager at Daffodil said, “Daffodil DB + Compiere will take the user out of the Oracle ‘box’ to a more flexible and affordable database option. Compiere community and Daffodil are looking forward for releasing the final version with improved performance”. Assuring the community of Daffodils best efforts, he added,” We are excited in having made a significant contribution to the Compiere community and in future also, we plan to make further enhancements to give the Compiere community a better experience while working with Daffodil DB.”
