In a classic illustration of the kind of junk Linux users DON'T have to suffer, Ed Foster identifies some people about to be genuinely disadvantaged by Microsoft's Genuine Advantage program.

"Ever since Microsoft began its pilot testing of the 'Windows Genuine Advantage' validation procedure last fall, there's been something about it that's bothered me. But I couldn't quite figure out what it was until this week's announcement that the validation procedure will become mandatory later this year for downloading updates."

Ed draws an interesting comparison with the hype surrounding XP's Product Activation, but perhaps he should have gone back to the original plea for his Emmaeus experience?
