A review of forces changing the world of collaborative software

TARRYTOWN, NY, July 05, 2006 – Open-Xchange, Inc. today posted the first in a series of position papers intended to review the forces changing the market for information technology in general and collaborative solutions in specific. These position papers are written by the world-renown software analyst, Daniel Kusnetzky, who is now the Executive Vice President, Market Strategy, Open-Xchange Inc. The first position paper, “Overview of a Changing World” can be found on the Open-Xchange, Inc. website. http://www.open-xchange.com/EN/news/position.html

Worldwide market studies by major industry analysts have shown that organizations are dealing with similar challenges. They are seeking ways to reduce their overall costs while also improving product offerings, customer service and making the best use of their resources. Among other things, this requires collaborating more efficiently with partners, suppliers and customers. Many organizations have responded to these pressures by adopting open source software; focusing on their core competency, outsourcing non-core functions; adopting new types of access-point devices; and moving beyond simple Email and Calendaring to a more complete, integrated and agile computer-based social network.

The Position Paper explains how collaboration software in general, and Open-Xchange Server specifically, enables organizations to respond to competitive pressures and achieve their strategic goals.

About Open-Xchange Server
Open-Xchange Server 5 delivers twice the functionality of the typical collaboration server at half the price. It works with more browsers, PDA’s and rich clients. Unique features – such as Documail, the integration of document sharing and email, Smart Links, Smart Permissions, Universal Access – make it the most productive collaboration tool on the market. Organizations use Open-Xchange Server’s GUI-based administration module featuring Tiered Entitlement to implement role-based user management.

Open-Xchange Server 5 supports the two leading Enterprise Linux distributions, Red Hat and SUSE and the Collax Business Server. Innovative connectors, OXtenders, enhance customer flexibility by using open standard APIs to integrate existing IT infrastructures, or extend capabilities to mobile devices, fax servers, back-up utilities, email archiving tools and Samba administration tools.
