Microsoft Loses Out to Sun Microsystems for Indian Government Contract

Sun Microsystems has claimed a big victory over arch-rival Microsoft in a ground-breaking deal with the government of Haryana, an Indian state that employs about 31,000. It will supply its desktop software, StarOffice, a low-cost alternative to Microsoft's Office based on the open-source Linux system.
