Great! Now that java's finally about to be freed, it's losing ground. According to Bill Snyder, Java is losing ground to Ruby on Rails, PHP, and AJAX for web development and being pushed by .Net in the enterprise.

This article comports well with my second-hand experience doing C and perl in an otherwise java shop. For all the hype as Java gets for speeding the development of reliable cross-platform applications, the enterprise apps I've seen seem to take FOREVER to get done.
