Jabber developers gain more code as Jive opens up server

When AOL opened up some of its ICQ instant messaging APIs last April, there was criticism that the open source move was bogus. But the latest IM code contribution from Jive is no jive, according to Jabber open source developers.

I haven't used ICQ in years, but wait... AOL owns ICQ now? Perhaps that explains why the AIM client has recently started adding boatloads of worthless buttons, popups, and other "features" not unlike ICQ did back in the post ICQ 98' days...

There is nothing wrong with ICQ, as longas you use GAIM, Kopete, or any other program to access it.

Oh I agree there. The *service* is just fine, it's the *client* that I can't stand. I use Gaim for everything, AIM included.

A fast scan, but AOL icontribution/i is not really ...

fully open. Somehow I got the idea that the complaints were unwarranted regarding AOL, but that may be due to my tendency to jump too quickly to unwarranted conclusions!
