Microsoft this week released a plug-in for the rival Firefox browser so that users can validate their Windows systems prior to downloading software from the Redmond, Wash.-based developer's Web site.

Security hole?

I read Microsoft's announcement on this. They don't really say what the plug-in does. Does it make Firefox work on Microsoft's site by being as insecure as most Microsoft product? My guess would be yes.

Was the plugin Open Source?

If so, we could do the same thing for Opera, no? And the Win32 version of Konqueror?
