[Ed: if will be true i will vote with my xmas pocket , lookout nvidia, ati] "As we celebrate this Thanksgiving Day here in the United States, there is an additional place in our hearts for the talented folks over at XGI Technology. Unlike XGI's earlier attempt at opening up their 2D FBDev source-code to the general public, which hadn't gained much support due to the lack of 3D code, they have begun to take a new position on their software. As many OSS enthusiasts could have only dreamed about, by as early as next month XGI is targeting at possibly releasing their complete source-code for the Volari 8300 to the open-source community. Read more in this Phoronix exclusive."

...but if XGI is really releasing their Volari drivers under a GPL-compatible FOSS license, I'll kick my Geforce 4 Ti 4400 out of my box.

I'm using the nv driver so I've not tainted my kernel, but a true Free 3D experience would be nice to have.

Well, Santa's coming to town shortly. Who knows what he might bring ;)
If this is true, I'd certainly use one as a replacement or with a new box. Looks like good specs.

I find it absurd that others don't do the same. What possible harm is there in releasing a driver under GPL??? What use is this to be put to other than to power one of the company's cards and thus increasing sales for them? Oh yeah, we are all going to build new cards off that info.... what BS.

ATI and NVidia take note.
