Interesting way to avoid saying Linux is hurting Microsoft, and not all of their woes are due to the economy, but a bad product:Quoting:Making matters worse, the one type of PC consumers have warmed to in tight times — the low-cost, low-power "netbook" — actually cut further into Microsoft's earnings, the company said. The tiny portable computers run on Windows XP, which is older and less profitable for Microsoft than Windows Vista. And why is it less profitable? Say it, just say it, Linux is putting the hurt on. I sure hate journalists. Next up is the desktop. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28791669/ |

It's sad, Scott, like I call myself a 'feminist' even though to the young twit whippersnappers it's a dirty word. We're here. We're journalists. Get over it! Maybe we need a slight modification, like 'real journalists who are not weiners like those other dorks over there.' |

If 'feminist' is a dirty word, then I am covered in mud. The problem is that the meaning of both 'feminist' and 'journalist' have been turned on their heads. Being a 'feminist' used to be a life stance, now its just another avenue for exploitation. Being a 'journalist' used to mean a search for the truth in a story and the author's talent in telling it to the world, now it means shills, liars and those who abuse their position in the self interest of making themselves famous. |

@Scott, you're far too naive. 'Journalist' has always meant a shill, liar or those who abuse their position in the self interest of making themselves famous. These days, we're simply more aware of the cr@p because people who really are upstanding find they have an easily accessed venue to say "Ah-ha!" and point out those among whose aims are not quite pure. For all the wasted noise that the internet has provided us, it has also provided a louder voice to those who actually pursue truth. It's mixed in with the pile of dung, but used to be it was buried beneath it. The mass media are no longer able to lie to us and maintain that a diamond is really a greasy little ball of poo. |

Sorry, Scott, I didn't mean you or TC. You guys write based on knowledge so I don't think of you as journalists. I only hate the 99% of journalists that are also idiots. I used to do interviews for local news outlets. Then I saw the horror that they reported and said never again. Not that it involved anything life or death, it just made me realize how little integrity they can have. |
