I'm not sure there's much of a story here. What everyone considers the Mandrake/Mandriva of the past is now Mageia -- which the article implies -- so essentially rather than being a joke, the "corporate" side of what's left of what was once Mandriva is now starting at square one. Good luck to them on that -- they'll need it -- and they have a lot of work cut out for them. |

Actually, ROSA Labs, the company, has also forked Mandriva and has done a very good job of it. This should be on LXer sometime soon, but in the meanwhile: http://broadcast.oreilly.com/2012/05/the-russians-are-coming... Mandriva, the company, may be toast, but the code/distro will live on, either in the forks (Mageia and ROSA Linux) or in the new community version. Either way, if you like the distro there is still plenty to look forward to. The badly mismanaged company won't be missed except by the few who are still collecting a paycheck there. |
