In short, there's some dodgy private company trying to promote itself by trash-talking "Linux" for over 10 days already (many shallow pieces in "the media"). But it's not about Linux, it's about servers that haven't been patched for ages and it's the fault of some outdated programs installed on them.

Remember that Microsoft keeps close to its chest the operations and finances of GitHub (because it's embarrassing!), so we must rely on leaks and/or whistleblowers

So the Linux Foundation devotes about 2% of its budget to Linux (which it's named after) and the above is what it does in practical terms (PR for Bill Gates).
