The Sakai Foundation has announced a link-up with Oracle as a commercial affiliate. The business technology giant says it will assist in the development of the community source Sakai collaboration and learning environment, which is supported by over 90 universities around the world.

As the Red Hat-JBoss Merger nears completion, JBoss chief -- now senior vice president of Red Hat's JBoss division -- sat down with CRN Senior Writer Paula Rooney at the Red Hat Summit in Nashville, to discuss the impact of deal on its existing partnerships, customers and partners, future co-opetition with IBM and interoperability pact with Microsoft. Red Hat announced its planned acquisition of JBoss in April and the deal was expected to be completed by the end of May. The Ubuntu project has officially announced the release of Ubuntu 6.06 Long Term Support (LTS) today. Ubuntu 6.06, better known by its code name "Dapper Drake," is the first Ubuntu release to offer an extended lifecycle, a GUI installer for desktop systems, and support for Sun SPARC systems. In a press conference yesterday, Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth talked about the Dapper release, and how the project plans to address enterprise needs.
