Parties on both sides of the Lycoris source code controversy stepped up to clarify the issues raised in a LXer article published on Wednesday. The controversy came to light as a report on OSNews.com, and the ensuing discussion left questions in many users' minds as to whether the code in question would, in fact, be released. The code in question involves both, portions of Lycoris' Desktop/LX, the Lycoris operating system, and Iris, the software delivery service similar to Linspire's "Click and Run" (CNR).

SEARCHING FOR a URL for Nokia's new portal aimed at developers - opensource.nokia.com, the INQ stumbled across another open source announcement to do with Web browsers.

It says right here that there's a new browser available to all those who have decided to licence its Series 60 3rd edition platform.Fine.

But the browser is based on WebCore and JavaScriptCore components of Apple's Safari Web kit. It's based on KHTML and KJS from the KDE Konqueror open source project.

Red Hat Inc has called on the Linux community to focus on the manageability of the open source operating system and outlined its plans to introduce virtualization and stateless Linux technology in the next version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Linux server management startup Centeris this week detailed its plans to open source part of its Likewise Management Suite software by making it available for download from SourceForge.net.

Centeris decided to put Likewise Open Agent on SourceForge, not on its own Web site, as a way to ensure a wide distribution, according to Barry Crist, chief executive officer of Centeris. "SourceForge is the first place developers look for open-source projects," he said in an interview at the Open Source Business Conference (OSBC) East in Newton, Massachusetts. The open-source download will be available from November 18.
