Debian alert: New mpg123 packages fix heap overflow
"A vulnerability was discovered in mpg123, a command-line mp3 player,
whereby a response from a remote HTTP server could overflow a buffer
allocated on the heap, potentially permitting execution of arbitrary
code with the privileges of the user invoking mpg123. In order for
this vulnerability to be exploited, mpg321 would need to request an
mp3 stream from a malicious remote server via HTTP."

Sun explains open source at EclipseCon
It was interesting, almost a through-the-looking-glass experience, to hear a suit from Sun stand on a stage and try to explain open source to an audience of mostly proprietary developers. It should be noted that the ballroom where the keynote was given was not far from Disney's Fantasyland.

Review: A Slackware User Looks at LindowsOS
Overall, Lindows is a fine KDE-based distribution for newcomers. It has some nice enhancements which make it easy to use. Despite the Wlan problem (that I still haven't managed to solve), I'm pretty impressed with it. Indeed recommended for newbies to give it a shot. If I somehow manage to resolve the wlan problem, quite possibly I will buy the laptop edition. Time will tell.
Aspen Systems unveils new dual blade server
Aspen Systems, Inc., best known for its Beowulf Linux cluster systems, this week introduced the Xeon-based Glacier Dual Blade Server System. The 14-unit blade system delivers equivalent performance and capabilities to a rack server but with easier installation, service, and management, the company said.
