DH2i Unveils Management Tools for Windows Server Containerized Apps

DH2i has introduced a management platform for containerized apps running on Microsoft Windows in a way similar to those for Docker apps on Linux. Containerized virtualization à la Docker remains one of the hottest topics in the open source and Linux worlds in the new year. But DH2i expects containers to become a major part of the Microsoft Windows server ecosystem, too, and has launched a new container management tool for the proprietary platform.

When Linux Distros Are Abandoned

We’ve had some fairly high profile Linux distros fold up their tents and move along. Whether due to a lack of financial support or the project growing larger than a one man dev team can manage, distros do go away. It’s never for a good reason but the fact remains: When a distro ceases to exist, a lot of people get left in the lurch.

Many situations occur when a static IP address needs to be set. For example, if you have programs that use the IP address say for remote login, then you might hardcode the IP address. But if the IP address is dynamic it can change, and thus you need an IP that does not change and hence you would need to set a static IP for your system. This tutorial deals with setting a static IP for Ubuntu OS.

Kali Linux 1.1.0 Screenshot Tour

After almost two years of public development (and another year behind the scenes), we are proud to announce our first point release of Kali Linux - version 1.1.0. This release brings with it a mix of unprecedented hardware support as well as rock-solid stability. For us, this is a real milestone as this release epitomizes the benefits of our move from BackTrack to Kali Linux over two years ago. As we look at a now mature Kali, we see a versatile, flexible Linux distribution, rich with useful security and penetration testing related features, running on all sorts of weird and wonderful ARM hardware. But enough talk, here are the goods: the new release runs a 3.18 kernel, patched for wireless injection attacks; our ISO build systems are now running off live-build 4.x.

Mission: Funding all those small but important open-source projects

Frustrations with the Linux SCSI Target (or SCST) software suite…

I have come to the realization that SCST definitely stood out as the most superior of the bunch and with good reason. It is also the most storage industry supported of iSCSI Target solutions. Acquired by Fusionio and now part of SanDisk, SCST continues to remain at the top of its SCSI Target competition. Although, with that said, I must note that it does come with its fair share of issues.

Amazon’s Kindle ereaders need better screen savers

I recently wrote about how much I’m enjoying my Kindle Voyage ereader, but there’s one thing about it I really don’t like at all: the screensavers that come with it. Yes, screensavers. The ones that come bundled with Kindle ereaders are either flat out ugly or just downright stupid.
