Mentors IVI stack updated with GENIVI 5.0 compliance
Based in part on MontaVista’s GENIVI-compliant in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) distribution, the Mentor Embedded Automotive Technology Platform (ATP) was released in April. In September, it was updated with an integrated version of Jungo Connectivity’s multimedia player middleware, and in October, Mentor Graphics announced a related Mentor Embedded Hypervisor that can work together with ATP and other IVI and telematics systems to enabled multiple VMs running on each core of a multicore SoC.

Advantech's first ARM-based SBC is a signage oriented 3.5-inch embedded board called the RSB-4410 that runs Linux on a Freescale i.MX6 at just 2.3 Watts After rolling out the ARM-powered ROM-7420 Qseven COM (computer-on-module) earlier this month, Advantech has added what appears to be its first ARM-based single board computer - the RSB-4410 - which which is implemented on the time-honored 3.5-inch SBC form-factor.

MYIR announced a Linux- and Android-ready COM called the MYC-AM335X with six versions of the TI Sitara AM335x SoC, plus a baseboard and touchscreens. Shenzhen-based MYIR, which recently released a series of low-cost MYC-SAM9X5-V2 computer-on-modules (COMs) based on Atmel's AT91SAM9X5 system-on-chips, is now taking pre-orders for two versions of a new TI Sitara-based MYC-AM335X COM.

CentOS Project Leader Karanbir Singh Opens Up on Red Hat Deal
In the 10 years since the CentOS project was launched there has been no board of directors, or legal team, or commercial backing. The developers who labored to build the community-led version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) worked largely unpaid (though some took a few consulting gigs on the side.) They had a few hundred dollars in their bank account to pay for event t-shirts and that was it. And the project's direction was decided based on the developers' immediate needs, not a grand vision of future technology. That's all changing with the news last week that CentOS will join Red Hat, said Karanbir Singh, CentOS project leader and one of four CentOS developers going to work for Red Hat as part of the new collaboration

My unit had Win 8.1 pre-installed on the SSD, but I could easily install various versions of Linux. I'm currently playing with the MINT distro. The NUC easily booted from any of the USB CD Drives I had laying around the house and quickly into Linux Mint. The machine immediately recognized all the weird USB devices I had hooked to a hub connected to the little box.
