'5G WiFi' chips operate at up to 1.3Gbps
Broadcom announced four "5G WiFi" chips, which implement the 802.11ac draft specification to provide wireless networking at speeds up to 1.3Gbps. The BCM4360, BCM4352, BCM43526, and BCM43516 operate at 5GHz, employ 80MHz channel bandwidth, and use a "beamforming" feature to increase signal strength, the company says....

Did Your System Take A Dive With Linux 3.2?
If you upgraded today to the just-released Linux 3.2 kernel and your Intel system is now having problems booting this new kernel release, you're not alone, but here's a possible workaround. A regression struck the Linux 3.2 kernel concerning IOMMU and is still present in the final release of Linux 3.2. The issue didn't appear during the 3.2 merge window but later on in the cycle (if my memory serves me when I first struck the issue, it was around -rc2 or -rc3) and results in the kernel not successfully booting.

Google is switching its Google TV platform from the Intel Atom to a new dual-core ARMv7 processor from Marvell. The dual-core, 1.2GHz Armada 1500 HD Media system on chip (SoC) -- featuring a Qdeo video subsystem capable of processing 3D HD video streams -- will be built into Marvell's Foresight Platform reference design for Google TV, according to the chipmaker....

A 4G-LTE network currently being built by LightSquared will interfere with the operation of GPS receivers, or so critics maintain. But provisions in a a defense spending bill signed by President Obama at the end of 2011 now require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to resolve all concerns before approving the service, according to this analysis by eWEEK's Wayne Rash....
