Virtualization With KVM On Ubuntu 11.10
This guide explains how you can install and use KVM for creating and running virtual machines on an Ubuntu 11.10 server. I will show how to create image-based virtual machines and also virtual machines that use a logical volume (LVM). KVM is short for Kernel-based Virtual Machine and makes use of hardware virtualization, i.e., you need a CPU that supports hardware virtualization, e.g. Intel VT or AMD-V.
Top 6 Linux and BSD graphical installation programs
New users tend to flock to distributions with easy to use installation programs, that is, to distributions with graphical installers. Some people will probably disagree with that statement, but most users feel more at home with a point-and-click interface, than with a terminal (console) program. While it is true that not all distro developers have the resources to code their own graphical installer, or to code a good one, I do not think that it is always necessary to roll your own installer. So to those distro developers without the resources to code a new graphical installation program, my only advice is, find an existing one that you like, one that you can work with, and fork it.

Fedora 16 KDE Review: Gnome 3 vs KDE 4
After playing with Gnome 3 under Fedora 16 and openSUSE 12.1, which made me a happy GNU/Linux user. I tried to see the issues people have with Gnome 3, most issues are not about 'status-quo' these issues are genuine so I looked at the alternative and tried to see how suitable is the second most popular Desktop Environment, KDE, for a Gnome user. I am writing this review as an average user. Advanced users know what they need - they are like mountaineers, they don't much care about such things. So, let's see how good is Fedora 16 KDE for an average Gnome user.

Kubuntu 11.10 review
Kubuntu 11.10 is the latest stable release of the desktop Linux distribution sponsored by Canonical Ltd., a Linux software provider based in London, UK. It is based on Ubuntu, but uses KDE, the K Desktop Environment.
Like Ubuntu, Kubuntu comes either as a CD image with a graphical installer, a CD image with an alternate installer, and a DVD image that offers access to a graphical and alternate installer. This review is based on test installations of 32-bit images of the CD and alternate CD installer editions.

Ubuntu 11.10 live from USB -- first impressions
Since I spent some time running Fedora 16 with GNOME 3/GNOME Shell via a live image, and I judged it as working well but not as polished in the design department as Ubuntu 11.04/11.10 with Unity, I figured I should give Ubuntu 11.10 a try with its live image and see what I thought.
Ubuntu Alternatives, Xfce, & Having A Go With Fedora 16!
A little over a year ago I fired up the then latest version of Fedora (13) and found much that I liked. Ultimately though, it just wasn't the right tool for the job and I ended up going back to Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Fast forward another year, a few more releases have come out from Fedora, and Canonical has been making some choices that, while likely great long-term for Ubuntu, are a bit awkward currently for some of its user base.
Comparison of major Linux package management systems
One of the major differences between various Linux distributions is package management. Many times, this is the reason somebody steers away from one distribution to another, because he/she doesn't like the way software is installed or because there is software needed that isn't available in the distro's repositories. If you are a beginner in the Linux world and are wondering about the differences between distributions, this will be a good start. If you've only used one or two distributions for some time and you want to see what's on the other side of the fence, this article also might be for you.
