The Akademy 2018 program is now available
Akademy 2018 organisers have published the program for the conference part of the event. This year the event will be held in Vienna, and talks will take place on the 11th and 12th of August.
Akademy 2018 Call for Participation
Akademy is the KDE Community conference. The 2018 edition is from Saturday 11th to Friday 17th August in Vienna, Austria. If you are working on topics relevant to KDE or Qt, this is your chance to present your work and ideas at the Conference. The days for talks are Saturday and Sunday, 11th and 12th. The rest of the week will be BoFs, unconference sessions and workshops.

Vienna Calling! This is not only a song by the famous austrian singer Falco, but could also the motto for next years Akademy.

Tuesday Akademy Wrapup Session
The second day of Akademy BoFs, group sessions and hacking has just finished. There is a wrapup session at the end so that what happened in the different rooms can be shared with everyone including those not present.

Akademy 2017 -- Day 1
During the first day at the Akademy, everything went according to plan and nearly everything was on time. Kudos to the organisers.
The weather was balmy at the beginning of the day and, although Aleix Pol said it was not hotter than a hot day in Barcelona, many of the Scandinavian and Scottish attendees were visibly wilting under the sun. Fortunately for them, the venue is equipped with air-conditioning...

Robert Kaye is definitely a brainz-over-brawn kinda guy. As the creator of MusicBrainz, ListenBrain and AcousticBrainz, all created and maintained under the MetaBrainz Foundation, he has pushed Free Software music cataloguing-tagging-classifying to the point it has more or less obliterated all the proprietary options.
Akademy 2017 - AlmerÃa, Spain - 22-27 July
This year's Akademy will be held at the Universidad de Almería (UAL) in Almería, Spain, from July 22nd to 27th.
The conference is expected to draw hundreds of attendees from the global KDE Community to discuss and plan the future of the Community and its technology.
Akademy 2016 BoF Wrapup Video

Akademy Awards 2016
Winners Kenny, Dan, Christoph, Dominic, Aleix. QtCon talks closed with our annual awards ceremony, the Akademy Awards. Given each year to the most valued and hardest working KDE contributors, they are awarded by the jury from the previous year.
QtCon Closing Keynote with Julia Reda MEP
The talks are over after the three days of QtCon Akademy 2016 which means the BoF sessions and hacking days are about to begin. To close the talks at the conference we had a finishing keynote by Julia Reda, Member of the European Parliament and member of the Pirate Party. She began by saying that on a fundamental level government is all of us, and it provides the infrastructure for our culture. Software used by the government is also a public service and the only philosophy that takes responsibility for that is free and open source software.
KDE Arrives in Berlin, Elects Thomas Pfeiffer to the e.V. Board
Today KDE has been arriving in Berlin for Akademy, our annual meeting, which is year is part of the larger QtCon conference. This year we are teaming up with KDAB to gather together with the wider community of Qt developers for the first time, which is a major opportunity to share experiences between the open source and the commercial worlds.
QtCon Call for Papers
QtCon 2016 Call for Papers is open. The event will assemble KDE Akademy, VideoLAN Developer Days, Qt Contributors' Summit, FSFE Summit and KDAB Qt training day. We invite contributors to these projects to present their work and insight at QtCon 2016. The conference will take place from 1st to 8th September in Berlin, Germany.

2016 is a special year for many FLOSS projects: KDE has its 20th birthday while Free Software Foundation Europe and VideoLAN both have their 15th birthday. All these call for celebrations! This year KDE has come together with Qt, FSFE, VideoLAN and KDAB to bring you QtCon, where attendees can meet, collaborate and get the latest news of all these projects.

As chair of the paper committee at Akademy, I introduced a single morning track of lightning talks that turned out to be an exceptionally good model for creation-type events like ours. Akademy 2015 coming to an end
During the BoF days from Monday to Thursday, a great many tiny videos were shot of many of the attendees by Dan Leinir Turthra Jensen. These have been edited and cut up and turned into a video explaining, very shortly, what KDE really is. Being a community of people contributing to the development of software, the conclusion is straight forward. See the unsurprising conclusion in the video entitled What is KDE? (webm, mp4), created as a tribute to the KDE community and all the amazing people in it.
