There are two advantages to getting certifications: they give credibility with bosses/clients, and you learn the material in a reasonably structured manner. Assuming, of course, that acquiring the certificate requires a bit of actual ability and knowledge. :)

As someone who's college diploma is still sitting at the bottom of his sock drawer, unframed, 17 years later, I'll say that I'm not a big believer in official certifications. Though sometimes they are necessary, I suppose.

heh, I agree that having a piece of paper doesn't prove anything about actual skillz. It's just that sometimes that piece o paper has its uses.
