Microsoft's stated reason for not using your OASIS standard instead of their own XML schema is that their extensions allegedly won't fit into OASIS.

But OpenOffice fits them in. This is not a hypothetical. OpenOffice fits in a superset of MS-Office's functionality right now, today.

Tell Microsoft to stop trying to hoodwink you. Tell them clearly. Suspend them. They've had no end of second chances already and have taken none of them. PLEASE call their bluff this time.
