Random thoughts on Andreesen and PHP

Is it just me, or is Andreesen really over-rated as a visionsary? Anyway, in my own development, I have moved from the "standard" Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP5 stack, to Linux/Apache/Mod_Python/PostGreSQL. It's a little harder to get started with, and it really helps if you admin your own web and database servers. (It's harder to find mod_python/PostgreSQL hosting.) But if you can use it, it's well worth the effort. We like to think of our development community as a meritocracy, and in some ways it is. But sometimes stuff becomes popular simply because the company or companies behind it have good marketing departments. |
