I had to bite my lip as I started reading the header/title for this piece. "Oh Gosh, another fan-boi piece." (of course, it's never a fan-boi stunt when I rave about a distro). Then I got to the qualifier in the title and all was well again. The golden phrase?

Linux on old machines.

Just HAD to read the piece then and yep...no foul here. Aside from what I consider to be a Carnie-on-acid experience with the normal Knoppix desktop, I have to give props to the author. It does just seem to boot and work when others do not (to ahem, include my distro of choice)
