I can imagine the next iteration in this black comedy would be to reinstall Windows every time turned on your computer.

The inertia of habit is powerful indeed.

Actually a repair would be more appropriate.

The Win XP install disks let you repair and save most of the user's settings and data.

Of course you have to skip the option to repair on the first text based screen of the install disk and choose install. Then on the next screen you get another repair option, this will re-install with as little damage as possible.

Yes, true Microsoft interface...

You want to stop your computer? Oh to do that you press the 'start' button.

You don't want to shut down, just just stop working and put you computer on stand-by? Oh well if you don't want to shut down, and you just want to stop and stand-by just press 'start' and then press 'shutdown'.
