There's a bug lurking somewhere in LXer. It sometimes forgets who submitted a story. When it does that, it substitutes "dave" for the username. Dave is trying to find the little devil.

While you're here (but Dave's not here, man), have I gone overboard on the number of stories popping out on the Newswire? Neither Dave nor Don have fired missiles at me, yet, at least.

Is that something we should be glad not to step in?

I don't understand any of this, and don't have time for it.

At the moment, I've got bigger chitlins to fry: my melons have all gone blind.

could the dave be a default value set up in the database column definition? then it wouldn't be in any code for a text search to find, but it would appear if a null value was passed into the table.

In a test copy of the table define the column as not null with no default. The next time it happens in prod, re-run the situation on the test table and it should blow up where the code is dropping the value.
