Who'd have thought supporting old distributions was really, really hard and would take a massive effort? :) It's why people pay for long term support from RHEL (5 years), and use Debian for shorter terms (1.5 years).

There's a huge amount of money waiting to be made for folks doing long term (5 years) support for the base subset of Debian releases, since it gets embedded in so many appliances.
