I think Google has reached a crossroads -- either they live by the informal company motto that was adopted early on ("Don't Be Evil") or just forget it and become just another large corporation. Maybe their their users and customers will call them to account to do the right thing. I hope so.

Don't hold your breath. It's in the nature of corporations to become large and uncaring.

Not in defense of Google per se, but...

Its also in the nature of corporations to spread FUD about competitors like Google, hoping to tarnish the shine.

Its much easier to sling mud than to actually compete in the free market.
