Microsoft sees a way to gain (hope to), using the best of foss ideas about software development, but its not going to be that simple or enough just on ideas. Vista and the applications to follow, are going to prove hard to work MS ISVs as a 'foss community', as the problems do to cost of MS tools and the real trick, having MS Vista ISVs working together on common developments, that differences don't cut ISVs apart, as profits shrink from market space growing smaller from Vista ISVs products growing larger in number. The question remains though, will ISVs be a part of the larger MS Vista and Vista applications picture in Microsoft's new development model if Microsoft does it at all.

Novell Iam sure sees a future from new business, by those that want to avoid having Microsoft take issue with them using linux. These new business people do not understand the picture to see about Novell, a network corporation that was near death a few years ago, buys a linux distro that pulls Novell from the grave digger hands, and now, Novell returns thanks to the foss community that did build SUSE, with a closed door in the community's face deal. This deal gos far beyond the GPL issues.
