My only experience running Solaris was on a Dell Optiplex GX150, with 512 RAM and a P3 900mhz. It was okay to look at, but it was SLOW. I couldn't believe how slow it was. Red Hat, Debian, PCLOS, they all love the box and run fine. Windows 2000 runs great on it. But Solaris was garbage. And patching Solaris was even slower. You'd have to have the blasted server down for an hour or more just to patch, and it took a couple of reboots.

Again, this was my ONLY experience with Solaris. I had assumed it would be very Linux-like. I assumed far too much.

Maybe it's just made for killer machines....
