Think about it. Even if the rumors about NT including the BSD TCP/IP stack, and that NT was originally DEC's "Micah" operating system aren't true, then somebody else's code is in NT for sure. Microsoft has too much history (Stacker anyone?) of misappropriating code for NT to be squeaky-clean enough to open-source.

Also, all the Windows "favorite ones", the companies and gurus that have had access to source, would just freak out. Their Secret Advantage would disappear, and they'd have to compete on merit.

It'll never happen.

Well, they could go the Sun's and Java's way and release everything except the encumbered parts. Like - BSOD code, or sth... That won't be much, yeah, but still...
