An adventure game.

Adventure games have something in common with Linux: In their respective playing fields they are both in the extreme minority. A lot of newly released adventure games don't even get much coverage in the mainstream press where shooters, sports, and strategy games are par. A lot of people who "don't play games" may not realise that these games exist, and may even find they enjoy them since they don't require a twitchy trigger finger - just your wits and some patience.

My wife's first encounter with Linux was when we started to play Beneath a Steel Sky running under ScummVM. It was bundled with the distribution we were using at the time. Since then we've played through a plethora of new and classic adventure games.

The lack of these in stores mean we often have to go bargain hunting on Amazon.com and Ebay for them.

I have a sticky thread at the Adventuregamers web site, listing some adventure games you can run under Linux in some way or another. You can find that here: http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19269
